Red Gate Software's Exchange Archiver - Open Beta

Red Gate software, better known for their quality SQL Server Tools, have opened their new Exchange Archiver product to beta applicants last week just prior to Exchange Connections. Their entry into this crowded market seems focused on ease of use as a competitive advantage.

Why not join the beta program?

Acronis Launches Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange

Acronis_Logo Acronis, probably best known for its great disk imaging, recovery, and hard drive utilities, has released Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange. I had a chance to work with this application through the beta process. The product is misnamed to me, because it is first a fast backup product, and then, if needed, an efficient recovery application.

It also backups at the database level, but captures mailboxes and folder in the process. Granular restores are possible without 'brick-level' backups. Also, Acronis Recovery for Exchange performs backups very fast.

Another feature is the Disaster Recovery Plan documentation engine. Acronis Recovery can generate server-specific steps to recover your Exchange server. In my experience, this information is often absent in offices running Exchange and anything that makes it easier is going to be beneficial.

They also have an Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange - SBS Edition. The Exchange version is priced at $999 USD per server and the SBS version at $399 USD. Of course, they have free trial downloads available for both.

ContactSync for Google Android accessing Exchange Server

When the Google Android was unveiled back in September, some were disappointed with the lack of Exchange Server support. Initial third party support for Exchange Server and the Google Android powered T-Mobile G1 has come in the form of ContactSync, a free tool from Wrike and Intermedia that uses web services to pull a user's Exchange 2007 mailbox contacts to the phone. This is a one way transfer tool. Bi-directional synchronization is planned as is a calendar synchronization as well.

For what it's worth, Fox News calls the Google Phone a "solid start".

DKIM for Exchange Server

I stumbled upon this commercial application implementing DKIM for IIS SMTP and Exchange 2000/2003/2007 from AdminSystem Software. I have not used it, but I will test their free trial. I do sometimes hear people ask how and if it is possible to deploy DKIM on Exchange.

The price is $299 US per server, but applies to all SMTP domains for that server. Product documentation is also available online.

Train Signal Exchange Server 2007 Training Video Review

I watched over 20 hours of quality Exchange 2007 training by Train Signal presented by fellow Exchange MVP David Shackelford. It is one of the best selling titles for Train Signal. This training title was actually released months ago.

I did a review of Train Signal's Exchange 2007 Training Videos.

    StealthAUDIT for Exchange

I was contacted a few days ago via email by a guy from a company called STEALTHbits Technologies about a product called StealthAUDIT for Exchange.  I can't say I've looked at this product and I can't recall hearing about it before, but essentially it's an Exchange auditing and compliance product.

If you're interested, there is an overview whitepaper here (PDF) and also a 12 minute overview video here.

Vamsoft Releases ORF Enterprise Edition 4.0

About a year after version 3, Vamsoft has released a version update to its very usable Open Relay Filter (ORF) now ORF Enterprise Edition 4.0. "ORF is a high-performance spam filtering extension for Microsoft® IIS SMTP Service and Microsoft® Exchange 2000/2003 servers."

Version 4 adds 64-bit Windows support, external SQL Server support, and e-mail subject logging among other improvements.

ORF works with Microsoft IIS SMTP, so it does not integrate with Exchange Server 2007. Exchange 2007 brings Exchange back to its own SMTP engine. I suppose one could use an IIS SMTP relay in front of an Exchange 2007 server with ORF.

Update: ORF has been incremented to ORF Enterprise 4.01 with a few bug fixes.

    Promodag Reports 7.6 Released

Promodag is a longtime favorite of mine. I wasn't going to post yet another incremental update for this useful Exchange reporting product, but I did note the addition of DST compliance reporting. Third party applications that use Exchange also have to be aware of DST updates and may have their own updates as well.

There is a fully functional 45 day free trial. Here is the list of major changes to this Promodag Reports 7.6:

    • The product was redeveloped using Microsoft.Net framework.
    • Integration of PROMODAG Reports Synthesis in PROMODAG Reports. This module consolidates your PROMODAG Reports databases (monthly ones for example) into one smaller PROMODAG Reports Synthesis database with less detailed information for quick trend reports.
    • Import of information stores file size.
    • New trending reports that will enable you to get x years of reporting grouped by month, quarter....
    • Unicode support for mailboxes displays names and message subjects.
    • Improved speed for imports.
    • Improved speed for report generation.
