Earlier this week, Dell announced that they would be selling a server with Microsoft´s Small Business Server 2003 (which includes Exchange) pre-installed for around $1000. Sounds like a bit of a bargain.

(update - don't get too excited about this, unless you want a Celeron powered, single 40GB IDE HDD server that is... although this of course would be perfectly acceptable for a small office (5 users), or for testing)

Thats great and *almost* cheap enough if you want to use it as your test-bed/training lab. It would be interesting to see what CAL's you get with it though as I'd expect that to bump the price up. Seeing as though w2k itself costs about £700 for a licence with 5 or 10 cals then this isn't too bad a bargain.

you get 5 cal's with it at the base price. after that i think the sbs cal's are $100 ea.

it's certainly sufficient for a 5 user office or as a test bed. adding an additional drive or drives isn't tough.
