Arcserve...

What backup application do you use to backup your Exchange Server? A fair number of you will no doubt be using Computer Associates Arcserve product. Is it good or bad? Hey, you know the answer to that one. Chances are however that you have 'got' to use it... after all it cost the company a few bob, didn't it?

If you're backing-up the Exchange server, either locally or across the network, using the Arcserve Exchange Agent, there are couple of log files on the Exchange server that the Agent writes to, they're called dbaexch.log (logs normal agent activity) and dbaxchg2.log (logs brick level backup activity) and they can grow!... If the files have grown significantly overnight, check your backup job for errors.

So, be warned, keep an eye on these files, you don't want them filling up a disk...

Does Arcserve have the same issue as Backup Exec whereby it cannot backup a mailbox if the associated active directory user account has been disabled?

I have Arcserve 11.1 backing up exchange 2003. It was setup before I started and is backing up both the First Storage Group and the Individual Mailboxes. Do I need to complete both or is one sufficient?

I am using Arcserve 11.1 to backup Exchange 2003 and a week ago, the brick level portion of my job started crashing. No mailboxes have been added or deleted, no AD accounts were disabled, added or deleted. When I try to modify my job and click on the brick level break-down of the server, Arcserve locks up and stops responding. Any suggestions or help with this would be greatly appreciated as I haven't been able to find any held on the CA support site.

Teresa I have this problem sometimes and what usually fixes it is changing the user that backs up exchange. Go onto the exchange server and go through the setup of the agent and create a new user. Then try using that user on the arcserve server to back exchange instead.

I have ost file which i tried to convet it is not converting giving error 004 regards
